More than 80% of GlobalWafers' Texas plant has been booked

On June 29, Taiwan Economic Daily quoted Xu Xiulan, chairman of GlobalWafers, as saying that more than 80% of the production capacity of the company's yet-to-be-built Texas plant has been booked by customers. Construction of the new plant can start in November at the latest; the new plant is expected to start production in 2025.
Previously, on March 15, GlobalWafers held a board meeting and disclosed its 2021 financial report at the meeting. According to the data released in the financial report, GlobalWafers' revenue in 2021 has successfully exceeded NT$60 billion, reaching NT$61.13 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%. Among them, the operating gross profit margin was NT$23.29 billion, the operating gross profit margin was 38.1%, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%, and the operating net profit was 28.9%, a year-on-year increase of 1.3%.
In addition to the financial report data, GlobalWafers also released an important news: a new 12-inch wafer fab will be built in Italy. GlobalWafers said that the existing plant of its Italian subsidiary MEMC SPA will be newly equipped with a 12-inch wafer production line, and will become the first 12-inch wafer fab in Italy, and it plans to start production in the second half of 2023.
